Do For You and Not For Others

Thandie Newton, a well known actress, once said
"Embracing Otherness,Embracing Myself."

One of the main points was to stay true to yourself and embrace what you were born with.

Don't try to change who you are to try to fit in. We are all different in our own little ways, but that doesn't mean we can go around judging others.

As a child Newton had a hard time embracing herself  She felt that she didn't belong. Her dad was white and her mom was black and she was the only black girl in her school.

Everything was different about her, from her skin color, to her hair, but that doesn't mean she should get treated any different than anyone else, but Newton did.

As a result of getting treated differently she to turned to dance to express her emotions.

As a dancer myself, I would say this is the best thing that could ever happen to Newton and for me too.

Dancing is something most people do for fun, but they never realize what it does for you emotionally.

Dancing is like living in a whole different world.

For me dancing is something I was born to do.

I don't have to do it.

I need to do it.....

Without dancing I don't what I would be doing with my life now.

Although I turn to dance to express my feelings, other people might not.

Find something that you enjoy doing and lets you let go of all of your emotional expression for example playing basketball, football, tennis or even painting.

Change Change

From White to Black

From Brown To Blue

Chameleon Brown by Lou Syguia is a poem about changing your appearance to fit in with people in your life. In today society appearance is everything, you cant even walk outside your house without someone judging you. Everyday of every moment you are getting judged by someone. Getting judged often leads to bullying especially in schools, everyday you always here of some little boy or girl killing them selves because they are getting picked on in school. people have to understand that everyone is different and they need to except that.

In the poem Chameleon Brown it says "change change like a chameleon do from white to black form brown to blue" this means that if your not one color than you need to change yourself to fit in with others. Why should anyone change who they are and what they look like to be excepted. In Chameleon Brown it also says "that clothes are not the skin of the man just as skin is not the essence." this means that it shouldn't matter what you were but whats on the inside.

When I moved to California, I notice that fashion was a big thing out here. If you didn't dress a certain way,  people wouldn't talk to you. I wasn't used to people getting made fun of because of what they wore. It was a big culture shock for me. Being the person I'm I did not adjust well to California's style and I knew that who ever talked to me is because they liked me for me and not what I wore. Its been 6 years and I still have they same friend that I did when I moved out here and I can say that they will be by my side through thick and thin. Change is a big part of life and you have to go through it everyday of your life, but remember change what needs to be change don't change yourself to someone you're not.

Dance Saved My Life

Since I was little my educational journey has been very challenging. Struggling with a form of dislexia I have been set back in many ways. Over the years I have learned how to overcome obstacles that were in my way. Although I still have dislexia, it has helped me be a stronger and better person.

My disability has made school very difficult for me and it takes me longer to get the hang of things than it would a person without a disability. I always knew that i was different and sometimes felt like an outcast. feeling like an outcast helped me turn to dancing. when I dance it's like I become a new person, I feel free and I know it's something I'm good at. When I dance, I can connect with people in different ways i never thought was possible.

Dancing has helped me not only to express myself but has helped me with my educational studies. Before I started dancing my grades were on the low side and I hated going to school. With dance in my life my grades went up to a 3.5 G.P.A and I couldn't wait to school started. In a way, dance has saved my life and has turned my life in a different direction from the music I listen to, to the people I hangout with. Dancing has played a big part in my life and has made my educational journey a great experience.

Everyone has struggles through out there life and you should always remember to keep your head held high no matter what happens.
